Why NSPF Exists
Communities possess knowledge, resilience, and the ability to create meaningful change. Yet, lasting development often remains dependent on external support rather than local leadership and collective action.
Drawing upon decades of collective experience in community development across rural and urban Maharashtra, the team behind Navnirman Savitri Phule Foundation (NSPF) recognised a simple yet powerful truth: sustainable development is not achieved through projects alone—it is achieved when people gain the confidence, knowledge, and leadership to shape their own future.
NSPF was established to create opportunities where communities learn together, lead together, and continue growing long after individual initiatives have ended.
Our purpose is not simply to implement programmes, but to strengthen people, institutions, and communities that can sustain development for generations.

Development Should Create Independence, Not Dependency

At NSPF, we believe the true measure of success is not the number of activities conducted, but the confidence of communities to lead their own development.
Working alongside communities and development partners, we support processes that strengthen leadership, participation, and local ownership. When communities take the lead, meaningful and lasting change becomes possible.
One such example is Sawade Gram Panchayat in Vikramgad Taluka, where NSPF is working in collaboration with Maharashtra Foundation to strengthen community-led development.
The Gram Panchayat was recognised with the Third Aadishakti Award at the Taluka level for its implementation of the Aadishakti Abhiyan, an initiative of the Women and Child Development Department, Government of Maharashtra. While the award recognises the Gram Panchayat's achievement, it also reflects the power of collaboration, community participation, and strong local leadership.
For us, the greatest recognition is seeing communities become confident enough to lead their own development.
